About 2048
This is the real 2048 — the open-source original by Gabriele Cirulli that started the merge-puzzle craze, running from his actual code (MIT licensed), hosted right here so it opens instantly and even works offline after your first play.
Slide the tiles in any of four directions; when two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one. Keep merging — 4, 8, 16, 32 — until you build the mythical 2048 tile. Simple to learn, genuinely hard to finish: every careless swipe fills the board a little more.
Controls
- Arrow keys: Slide all tiles in that direction
- Swipe (mobile): Same thing — swipe any direction
Tips & strategy
- Pick a corner and keep your biggest tile locked there — never swipe away from it.
- Work in two directions only (e.g. down + right) for as long as possible.
- Think one merge ahead: a move that merges nothing usually costs you the game later.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the original 2048?
Yes — it runs from the original open-source code by Gabriele Cirulli (MIT license), not a clone.
Does 2048 work offline?
Yes. After your first play it is saved by your browser and loads with zero internet.
Is there an end after 2048?
You can keep going — 4096, 8192 and beyond — until the board fills up.
